The votes are in for the best town in America and the winner is? Duluth, Minnesota. After six rounds in a bracket style tournament put on by Outside Magazine, Duluth was crowned the winner, beating out 63 cities including Minneapolis.
Outside Magazine asked readers to vote for the best outdoor lifestyle city and Duluth residents came out to advocate for the Lake Superior based city. The VoteDuluth hashtag was used across social media in order to spread the word about voting along with promoting the hiking and biking trails among other outdoor assets in the city.
Duluth Mayor, Don Ness, posted on his Facebook page to recognize the victory saying, "Over the past month, we saw people from all over the country weigh in and proclaim how much they love this city. Despite the worst two years of weather in our city’s history, Duluthians stood up and showed their pride in this city. We proudly highlighted world-class outdoor recreation and natural beauty that compared favorably to much larger and much more popular cities across the nation."
Duluth beat Provo, Utah in the final round with 55% of the votes. The city will be featured in print and online in Outdoor Magazine sometime in September. Looks like a trip to Duluth may be in the future.
