On a Personal Note: When You Ask You Neighbor For Basil

I have to share this story with you.

For the first time, we have a vegetable garden in our backyard. Tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce and carrots- a good mix BUT we have no herbs.

Our neighbors, Alyssa and Cooper, also have a garden box and they've included all kinds of herbs- cilantro, basil, rosemary and parsley- it's growing like crazy!! In fact, the basil was so plentiful, Alyssa had an extra container in the backyard.

Saturday night, we were at A & C's for dinner. Hanging out in the backyard with our dogs, Frida and Tuffy, I mentioned that I'd like to get some basil to make a salad with our ripe tomatoes. On cue, Tuffy walks by, looks at us, lifts his leg and pees on the extra basil container.  "You can have that basil," Alyssa said.

I've been laughing about that all week.  I did manage to snag some un-peed-on basil from the FRONT yard and made this tasty salad last night...

Cherry or mini tomatoes (cut in 1/2 or 1/4s)

Diced White Onion

Chopped Basil

Fresh, grated parmesan or small cubes of fresh mozzarella

Sliced black olives (optional)

Balsamic Vinaigrette (I used the Low-fat Newman's Own)

Stir together and serve.

It was DELICIOUS!

Happy Wednesday!
