For the longest time, people have asked me why I am such a big fan of Carrie Underwood. Have you heard her sing? Have you seen her? Why wouldn't you be a fan of her?
Actually, there is a story behind it and it goes like this....
Years ago when I was sitting in the lobby waiting for my interview at K102, I knew I was prepared but was still a little nervous. Underwood's "All American Girl" started playing on the overhead speakers and I kind of got lost in the song and the next thing I knew, it was time for my interview.
I had prepared and practiced what I would say to a bunch of different questions but the second one they asked me was, "why do you want to work here?" I froze! I didn't know what to say. The only thing that came out of my mouth was, "I want to meet Carrie Underwood." Yep, I said that. Mary J McKay (I owe so much to her) laughed and said I would fit in well here and hired me.
From that point until this past weekend, every time Underwood was in town I was ALWAYS out of town. It never failed! the running joke around K102 was when is she coming to town - oh - that means Pat will be gone. I was starting to think that I would just never get a chance actually meet here since that is what I blurted out during my interview.
Well, it's funny how things always seem to work out in the big guy upstairs plan. When you don't understand why things (big or small) aren't working out or happening, just have patience. This past weekend at Country Fest - look who I ran into....
It was awesome being the last in line and I got a chance to spend a few minutes talking to her. Of course, I told her this story and she thought it was awesome. She was just as advertised - so sweet and very nice!
I couldn't have dreamed up a better way to bookend my amazing time here at K102! Thanks Carrie =)
