I took a long weekend and headed to The Falls to hang with my Mom and sisters.  Almost every man I know North of the Iron Range was in a deer stand so we decided to do some serious cooking!

The evening we arrived, I looked out the living room window and this is what I saw…

An 8-point buck and a doe!  I had to laugh that while all the men were hunting- the deer had come to us!  Well…not really to us- but to eat the corn in the backyard.  They were so close- it was really cool and made the sight at the end of our trip that much more disturbing- but I’ll get to that later.

Sisters (Stephanie and Olivia), my Mom and I had cooking to do.  We made 3 different dinners in bulk so we could bring them home and keep them in the freezer.  We made enough for all 4 of us to have 12 meals a piece- not too shabby!

We made 230 meatballs.  (YES) this picture makes me giggle too.

Meatball prep

16 tins of Chicken Wild Rice

16 Bags of Chicken Ala King (my personal favorite)

This was my favorite trip home in a long time.  Not that I usually don’t have fun but we laughed so much and really got to hang out- good times!

On the way home (Steph and I drove together) at one point I looked at the cars and trucks around me- it was as a dead deer fest!  THEY WERE EVERYWHERE!  Deer in the back of trucks, on trailers, strapped to the hoods of cars and my two favorite carcass placements go to…

A deer tied down to the side of a Winnebago.

I saved the best for last.  My sister was taking the pictures and after passing this car, I had to slow down and found myself driving next to him as the guy in the car laughed.  He KNEW this was a funny sight.  He was driving a Chevy Aveo (a very small, compact car) and had a dead deer shoved in the back seat.

I don’t know how far he had to go- but my guess is the smell in that little ride was far from pleasant.

I’m happy to be back and look forward to giving away A BUNCH of Class of 2012 tickets today!  Ladies Night tonight at Toby’s too- WOO HOO!

For those hunters who aren’t so lucky this deer season- I saw this deer light and thought it could maybe be good (and useful) consolation trophy if you get skunked!
